How to setup your email account in Outlook

How to Set Up CPanel Email in Outlook (IMAP with SSL/TLS)

Follow this guide to configure your CPanel email account in Microsoft Outlook using secure SSL settings on AlmaLinux servers.

1. General Server Settings

To connect to your CPanel mail server, use the following standardized settings:

  • Incoming Port (IMAP): 993
  • Outgoing Port (SMTP): 465
  • Encryption Type: SSL/TLS
  • Username: Your full email address

2. Step-by-Step Configuration

Open Outlook Account Settings

Navigate to File > Add Account. Choose Manual setup and select POP or IMAP.

Enter Mail Server Details

Enter your name and full email address. Set the server names to mail.yourdomain.com (replace with your actual domain name).

Enable Outgoing Server (SMTP) Authentication

This is a mandatory step for CPanel hosting:

  1. Click More Settings.
  2. Open the Outgoing Server tab.
  3. Tick the box: "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
  4. Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".

Configure Advanced SSL Ports

On the Advanced tab, set the following:

  • Incoming server (IMAP): 993 (Select SSL/TLS from the dropdown).
  • Outgoing server (SMTP): 465 (Select SSL/TLS from the dropdown).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is my Outlook not connecting to the outgoing server?
Ensure that "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" is ticked in the More Settings menu. On AlmaLinux/CPanel, port 465 is the standard for secure SMTP.

Should I use IMAP or POP3?
IMAP is recommended as it syncs your emails across all devices (Phone, Webmail, and Outlook), whereas POP3 downloads them to a single device.
